PRESCOT & Odyssey CC had no league action last weekend due to the uneven number of teams in the Merseyside Cricket Competition.
However, the 2nd XI played out an exciting game on Thursday at home to Parkfield in the semi-final of the Norman Cottam Memorial Trophy.
Batting first, skipper Neil Lockwood had hoped for something in excess of 110 but P&O were restricted to just 90-8 off their 20 overs, Steve Edwards top scoring with 24 and Paul Dagnall chipping in with an unbeaten 19 at the end.
In reply, Parkfield's batsmen never really settled against the accuracy of the P&O attack and some extraodinary fielding.
Despite some lusty blows trying to take the initiative from P&O, the visitors lost wickets at important times.
Ian Carson came into the attack and destroyed Parkfield's hopes, taking three wickets for just seven runs.
P&O eventually won by 20 runs as the visitors capitulated to 70 all out from 18.2 overs.
In the final, to be played on August 5 at Birkenhead St Mary's, P&O will face Prestatyn over two games of 20 overs, the winner being the team with the highest aggregate score.
This Saturday sees the return of league fixtures as the 1st XI visit Liverpool Manweb, the 2nd XI entertain the same club and the 3rd XI take on Saughall at home.
