POLICE today launched a series of swoops on people wanted in connection with last month's Burnley riots.
The operation began with the detention of three people on suspicion of committing violent disorder, and the man leading the inquiry, Det Supt Paul Buschini, said more arrests would follow as part of the on-going investigation.
For the past five weeks a team of more than 30 detectives from across Lancashire based at Burnley police station has been working on the inquiries.
Fourteen people were arrested and charged in the days after the rioting but now people were being arrested on suspicion of more serious involvement, he said.
The arrests are expected to continue for anything up to three weeks after police have gathered evidence and studied CCTV footage.
Mr Buschini said police wanted to let people in the area know that the operation was continuing.
He added: "We are determined to find and arrest and take action against those people responsible for the events of a few weeks ago."
Bradford police today praised the public of East Lancashire for responding to their appeal for help to find suspects they want to question about the recent riots in Bradford.
They revealed that 350 calls had flowed in following the publication of 20 pictures of people they want to interview.
A police spokesman said as a result of the media publicity, four young men had given themselves up to police and been released on police bail while further inquiries take place.
