ORGANIC fan Marjorie Cawtherley opened her garden to the public to show just how it has grown naturally.
The near one-acre spread began eight years ago as a small patch at Sagar Fold Farm, Burnley.
What began as a small patch at Sagar Fold Farm, Burnley, eight years ago, is now a near one-acre spread.
Former college lecturer Marjorie found time for horticultural interests after retiring, but reckons its success is due to the organic methods she uses to get the best from her splendid garden. It features a no-dig vegetable patch, herbaceous beds, small orchard, walled area, rockery, stream and pond but no chemical fertilisers, fungicides or pesticides.
Yesterday she shared the secrets of her success with visitors as she opened plot as part of the National Gardens Scheme to raise cash for St Peter's Church.
The garden features many old and rare flowers and plants and Mrs Cawtherley firmly believes any chemical remedy for garden ills can easily be replaced by a natural prescription.
