LEYLAND 103, CHORLEY 149
(Chorley won by 46 runs. Leyland 3pts Chorley 15 pts.)
Leading batsman Nigel Heaton and professional Josh Marquet shared the honours as Chorley ended a run of three defeats with a timely 46-runs victory at Fox Lane to move within two points of leaders Netherfield in the Northern Premier League.
Run-scoring was not easy on a lively track and in the context of the match Heaton's 55 was aninvaluable contribution.
It was his partnership of 52 with Michael Critchley (21) for the sixth wicket which enabled Chorley to recover from 74 for 5 and ultimately reach 149.
Leyland paceman Steve Pallett returned excellent figures of 5 for 39 from 17 overs.
The home side in reply were always in trouble against the genuinely fiery bowling ofMarquet, ably supported by Iqbal Patel.
The key dismissal was that of Leyland's substitute professional Martin Van Jaarsveld, clean bowled by an unplayable delivery from Marquet for 34.
His departure at 64 for 5 was immediately followed by another wicket for the Australian quickie to open the door to a victory vital to Chorley's championship hopes.
Leyland were all out for 103, Marquet finishing with 5 for 44 and Patel picking up 4 for 33.
