CHERRY Tree briefly held top spot in the Jennings Ribblesdale League after Oswaldtwistle pulled off the shock result of a double-header weekend.

Oswaldtwistle's Aussie professional Will Carr took 6-73 to dismiss high-flyers Read for 150 after Immanuel had scored 163-9 despite the Read pro Akram Raza taking 5-41.

Cherry Tree beat Great Harwood with Lee Kennedy scoring 71 in their total of 230-6. Harwood were dismissed for 161 with Nigel Roberts picking up four wickets.

Baxenden professional Jonathan Harvey had a superb weekend starting with 89 and 5-42 against his old club Earby.

Dave Usher scored 51 as the home side set a target of 223-3 and Earby were dismissed for 172.

Blackburn Northern took the honours against Ribblesdale Wanderers who were restricted to 118-9. Northern went on to secure a comfortable win.

Paul Beech scored 101 not out in 88 balls for Barnoldswick with their professional Raja Arshad adding 59.

Edenfield's sub pro Matthew Mott -- the paid man for Lancashire League side Rawtenstall -- gave his side a fighting chance with 152 before he was run out but the side fell short on 226-9.

Whalley's David O'Neill captured six wickets as the bottom club beat Padiham.

Settle looked to be down and out with Clitheroe just two runs short of victory after the Dales side had set a target of 152-6 with Keith Hornby on 55.

Dave Jolleys who took 7-66 then finished the game with a hat trick of lbw decisions to sink Clitheroe's hopes.

Read bounced back to the top on Sunday with a crushing victory over the Dales side. Settle were bowled out for 75 with Wasim Raza taking seven wickets for just 12 runs. He added 44 not out as Read secured victory by eight wickets.

Cherry Tree faltered despite 59 from professional Naeem Ashraf. Ribblesdale Wanderers secured a six wicket win with Shahid Nawaz on 60 not out.

Padiham took the honours against Great Harwood with Andy Hall (73) and Andy McNicholas (54) leading the way to their total of 223-9 despite Gordon Simpson's five wicket haul.

Great Harwood were dismissed for 201 with Farhan Adil taking 5-79.

After upsetting the leaders, Oswaldtwistle went down to bottom club Whalley who scored 172-7, Immanuel reached 140-8 at the close of play.

Edenfield's deputy professional Ian Mitchell from the Bolton League earned his keep with six wickets and a knock of 65 as his side beat Earby. Edenfield won by two wickets despite Trevor Kegg taking five wickets.

Blackburn Northern professional Ata-ur-Rehman took five wickets as Blackburn Northern beat Clitheroe by 80 runs.

Jonathan Harvey's superb weekend continued with five wickets against Barnoldswick.

Baxenden had earlier scored 155-7 with Mark Rishton on 62 not out.
