BLIND people across East Lancashire have received a guiding hand from leading brewery.

For Daniel Thwaites' Charitable Trust Fund has donated a reading machine worth over £1,000 to the Accrington Blind Society.

The machine scans letters and documents and a computerised voice then reads them aloud.

"We are often asked to read mail for our members who drop in, but quite often it is of a confidential nature," explained the Society's Volunteer and Resource Co-ordinator Janet Entwistle.

"This machine allows members to have their mail read but the contents can remain private to the individuals concerned.

"It will be of great benefit to our members and we are delighted with the help we have received from Thwaites.

"We have more than 800 members in the area and we are constantly looking for funds to help continue our work."

The trust, established in 1994, has donated more than £150,000 to good causes.
