AN asylum seeker was stabbed twice during an unprovoked racial attack at Bury Interchange.
The 31-year-old suffered a punctured lung when one of two skinheads stabbed him in the chest and back on Saturday evening. The victim, an Afro-Caribbean who has been staying in the country for the last four years and lives in Cheetham Hill, was rushed to Bury General Hospital for emergency surgery. He is currently recovering at the hospital.
Police have described the man's injuries as serious but not life-threatening.
Detective Sergeant Duncan Heywood, of Bury's Operational Police Unit, said: "This was an unprovoked attack by two bare-chested teenage skinheads. We believe that a teenage girl was with the offenders at the time of the stabbing.
"We are viewing CCTV footage from the Interchange but we are keen for anyone who was in the bus station between 8.45pm and 9pm on Saturday to contact Bury CID if they have any information about the attack or the offenders."
He added: "We are treating this matter as a racial incident."
Witnesses can contact Bury CID on 856 8150 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
