A MAN being questioned by police in connection with an alleged racial attack near Queen's Park, Burnley, has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Police investigating the incident at the Bands in the Park event at about 6.30pm on Sunday are appealing for witnesses to the attack, near to the bus stop in Queen Victoria Road and to a collision between two cars on the same road.

Det Insp Tony Bolton said people in the cars may be vital witnesses and he appealed for them to come forward.

Shamraz Hussain, 20, of Cromwell Street, Burnley, suffered facial and head injuries in the attack, in which a gang of up to 30 rampaging white youths are said to have taken part.

He is recovering in Burnley General Hospital.
