IBURNLEY manager Stan Ternent is ready to see Gazza grace Turf Moor -- but he will only have eyes for his own new boy Dimitri Papadopoulos.

Former England star Paul Gascoigne looks set to play some part tonight when Premier side Everton take on the Clarets in a pre-season friendly.

But more important to Burnley fans will be the debut of the Greek Under 21 international striker who was set to return from his homeland today after meeting his new team-mates in the Isle of Man last week.

"He should be ready to play a part and I will try and get him on at some stage although I am keen to field as many players as I can," said the Clarets boss, who paid £500,000 for the 20-year-old.

Everton have added former Celtic defender Alan Stubbs to their side this summer, who was a free transfer, and Tomasz Radzinski, a £4.5m Canadian international striker, is set to make his English bow.

And with names like Duncan Ferguson, Kevin Campbell and David Unsworth it won't be an easy game -- although the attention is still all on Gascoigne who is making his comeback from a series of injury setbacks last season.

"I'm sure Gazza will play, he is an intergral part of their team when he is fit," said Ternent, who is looking forward to being the underdogs after being the team to beat on their pre-season tour.

"Walter Smith has turned things around since he went to Everton about three years ago.

"They are a Premiership football side and we will not be expected to win -- although, saying that, we did last year and it is always nice to win!

"But this and the Chelsea game are good matches for the players and the fans.

"The result is not of great importance. We do not get any points for these games and it is always about fitness."

There are one or two Liverpudlians in the Burnley camp -- including Graham Branch.

"I wouldn't mind getting one over on the Evertonians," said the right winger who is hoping to play some part after recovering from a knee injury over the summer.

"But it will be good to play teams like Everton as it shows the level you are aiming at."

Ternent's main worry is Paul Weller who has a blister after playing in the Isle of Man where Burnley lost the final game to Wrexham on Saturday.

But there was good news for defender Mitchell Thomas who sat out the Manx tournament with an abductor strain.

"He is getting back," confirmed Ternent.

"He is looking better and hopefully he will be able to play two or three games."

And trialists Alan Moore and Paul Hughes will get more chances to impress -- although there is bad news for the Belgium midfielder Dimitri De Conde who came on trial.

"I will come to a decision on those two this time next week although Dimitri has returned home," said Ternent.

But overall the boss is pleased with the way things have shaped so far.

"They were four good games in the Isle of Man, they were good work outs and it is fair to say we now have competition for places but that is what we need.

"We have Kevin Ball suspended for the first two games and Mitch has not played yet.

"But by the time the season comes we will be ready. Everything is geared to Sheffield Wednesday."

PRICES for tonight's game are £10 and £5 concessions.
