AN elderly Blackpool lady was shell-shocked when she discovered two treasured pets had been stolen.
The 83-year-old woman kept two tortoises in the garden of her home in Rossett Avenue, Mereside. One was large -- more than 20 inches in diameter -- and the other, named Bruce, was an average size and had a plaster on the base of his shell near the tail following a recent injury.
They have a value of more than £1,000 and had been with their owner for 40 years. She had been considering donating them to the zoo after the death of her husband a couple of years ago, but could not bear to part with them.
They were stolen from her garden between 7pm on July 20 and 8am on July 21.
Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 293933.
