For the 10-year-old top-scored with 15 -- including two fours and a towering six -- and then stopped a hatful of runs behind the wicket.

The Painter brothers Matt and Tom gave Darwen a steady start, scoring five runs each in their alloted four overs.

Asim Sheikh and Ehshan Khan came to the crease in the fifth but Salesbury's Ashley Marsh made an immediate breakthrough to bowl Sheikh first ball. Two balls later Khan was run out.

However, the pair recovered well and after both picked up a string of quick singles while Sheikh was the first to hit a boundary with a smart hook shot off Marsh's second over.

Andrew Brown and Clarke were Darwen's third pair but Adam Smith bowled Brown before the pair could get a run on the board.

Clarke hit Dylan Woods for 14 runs while Simon Cooper and Elliot Wilde put together a 23-run partnership -- with Wilde hitting a fine 13 runs.

Dominic Rabbitts and William Cook got the worst start possible for Salesbury.

After Cooper bowled a maiden first over Matt Painter claimed the wickets of the two openers -- one a smart catch by Clarke.

And when Elliot Wilde bowled Cook in the third over, Salesbury were struggling on 187 -- 13 runs below their 200 run start.

But Adam Smith and Alex Dobson did a fine job to steady the ship and Smith in particular looking very confident with his ground strokes as he went on to hit two boundaries on his way to 12.

Alex Kelly and Tim Wainwright came to the crease with the latter giving one of those all or nothing batting displays.

Wainwright showed that he liked to swing at anything that looked inviting and hit a crisp four in his first over the crease.

But he was found wanting in the next over when Wilde trapped him lbw and two balls later cleaned bowled him.

Wainwright made amends in the first ball of the 11th over when he hit Tom Painter for four but was clean bowl the very next ball.

He was unlucky to lose his wicket for the fourth time when Cooper pulled off a magnificent diving catch. Kelly did well and batted intelligently to score 10 runs. Woods and Marsh put their side back in the black -- with Woods top scoring with 15 while Marsh made two.
