STUDENTS from East Lancs are spending two weeks in India under the annual Daniel Thwaites sponsorship.
The brewery's Travel Scholarship is awarded each year to worthy recipients and Leanne Jayauardene, 17, who attends Habergham High, Burnley, and Paul Lord, 18, of Haslingden, were among the ten students selected after writing a letter to Thwaites, explaining why they thought they qualified.
Leanne, Paul and the rest of her new-found friends had their wishes granted when they jetted off from Manchester airport to India, with a visit to the Taj Mahal in prospect, as well as more functional projects, including helping at a school for the blind and staying with a family in Bombay to experience how the local people live.
Leanne is studying for four AS levels and hopes to work on environmental issues.
