IN response to the re-location of the bus stop opposite to Haydock High School, to a safe bus lay-by, I would like to praise Merseytravel, who have with complete regard for school children's safety, funded the move of the stop, and the new refuge situated near it.
My family and I, and all the residents opposite to the school, have over the years seen children badly hurt, and endless near misses. It is a distressing sight, and contrary to the complaints from some people, my family and I can sleep happy in our beds with the knowledge that children are no longer at risk. People who don't live on the main road don't realise the dangers to kids, and the traffic is now heavier than years that have passed.
The pedestrian crossing will be a god-send to young and old, if one thinks about it. Signing a petition to put the bus stop back where it was, is signing children's safety away, and they must come first.
My own son was knocked down years ago, and badly injured, so I speak from experience. What I and my family went through was sheer hell.
Since his accident, Clipsley Lane has trebled in traffic, so three cheers for Merseytravel, and the improvements to our children's safety.
Haydock High schoolchildren are our next generation, and pensioners' grandchildren.
