A POLICE superintendent from Preston has been arrested after allegedly assaulting his wife.
The officer, believed to be Supt Clive Helliwell, of Abbot Meadow, Penwortham, has now taken time off work.
A police spokesman said: "Around 4.30pm on Wednesday, July 25, an allegation was received from a woman that she had been assaulted at her home address in Penwortham. A 47-year-old man was arrested and taken to Bamber Bridge police station for questioning. He was released on police bail pending further inquiries.
"The man is a serving police officer with the Lancashire Constabulary. He is not currently at work having reported sick. Following further inquiries, no official complaint was received from the woman."
