FLEETWOOD Swimming Club is celebrating on two fronts. The team of swimmers aged 12 and upwards which competes in the North Lancashire Sub League has finished the season as Division 1 Champions.
"It's a few years since we last won the division," said Barry Raynor, the Sub League team manager. "Some of the galas have had nail-biting finishes where we have won by the odd point or two. We have a group of dedicated team members who have put in a great deal of effort to bring the title back to Fleetwood."
The Micro League team for the under-12s won three out of four of their galas, and finished second in the fourth, to secure a place in the North West final to be held in Lancaster in September. "We have been North West Champions for the last three years and we are looking for another victory," added Barry who also manages the Micro League team.
This year there has been a new format to the Micro League. Fleetwood A team has been in Division 1 while the Dolphins (the B team) has been in Division 2. Individual placing in galas don't count for a great deal, as it's the total number of points that determine who finishes in what position in the division. Every point in every gala is important and Fleetwood A team has won more points than any other team in the league.
