BURNLEY manager Stan Ternent can run the rule over trialist Arthur Gnohere for the final time against big spending Chelsea tomorrow.
The Clarets boss was waiting for international clearance for the French defender who has become something of a cult figure after his battling display in the 1-0 friendly win over Everton on Tuesday.
The Turf Moor management received the clearance they needed this morning.
And the 22-year-old, who has been training with the Clarets all this week, will be keen to prove he is not a one hit wonder against the might of Premiership Chelsea.
He may not start but is expected to play some part.
Tomorrow is also the last chance for the other two trialists, winger Alan Moore, 26, and midfielder Paul Hughes, 25, to earn a contract at Turf Moor -- although a Burnley XI do play at Accrington Stanley on Monday night.
The duo have become part of the pre-season set-up and Hughes will be aiming to excel against the club where he started his career.
Midfielder Hughes spent six years at Stamford Bridge but struggled to command a regular place and left towards the end of the 1999-2000 to link up with Glen Hoddle at Southampton.
But a series of niggling injuries and the replacement of Hoddle with Stuart Gray led to his release at the Dell.
"I have drawn conclusions down the line but I will still decide next week," said the manager.
Meanwhile facing the Blues was already looking a formidable task after they added Frank Lampard, William Gallas and World Cup winner Emmanuel Petit to their squad over the summer.
But they could unveil their new £7.5m man Boudewijn Zenden, who was signed from Barcelona yesterday.
Manager Claudio Ranieri has been chasing the Holland winger for some time after Zenden lost his spot to Marc Overmars last season. CONTINUED PAGE 39 CLARETS: From back page
The addition brings Chelsea's total spending spree to £32m over the summer -- Burnley have spent just £500,000 on Greek striker Dimitri Papadopoulos.
"Chelsea is a massive club," said Ternent, who was assistant manager to Ian Porterfield at Stamford Bridge in the early 1990s.
"They have a charismatic chairman Mr Bates and they have Colin Hutchinson as managing director.
"They are a big club, being in the West End and so it will be a big match for my players. They will enjoy it as they did on Tuesday night against Everton.
"And Chelsea have been very successful. The only thing they haven't won is the championship. They were FA Cup winners and won in Europe when it was the Fairs Cup."
While Ternent has made three foreign additions to his squad so far, it is nothing to the scale of Chelsea's foreign army.
"They have a multi-national team," he said. "They have a lot of class with Petit, Marcel Desailly -- two World Cup winners -- and the rest.
"They are good footballers and also have a couple of English players!"
These include former Rover Graeme Le Saux who might expect a 'warm' reception from the Turf Moor faithful.
The Burnley manager intends to name a 24-man squad -- as he did against Everton -- and use as many in possible. This could include defender Mitchell Thomas who has not played yet pre season because of an abductor strain.
Chelsea have played a couple of pre-season friendlies having a shock 3-1 loss to QPR last weekend but coming back with a 7-1 victory over Second Division Northampton midweek.
