WORK is to restart on tackling derelict areas in Leigh, thanks to an extra £2.5 million boost.
The North West Development Agency has agreed to fund a special programme of land reclamation in the borough, which includes work at Ramsdale's Tip, at Pennington Flash, and the former Pickley Green railway line.
Although an overall allocation has been agreed, the council still needs to get detailed approval for each individual project. The land reclamation team is now hopeful of an early approval for the tip scheme which is one of the main projects for the first year of the programme.
Cabinet member for the environment, Coun Brian Strett, said: "We can now restart the job of tackling the remaining areas of derelict land in the borough."
