THE school holidays have not started yet for 30 of Leigh's brightest pupils.
They have gathered for a fortnight's hot-housing at Westleigh High School's Gifted and Talented Summer School.
The programme, funded via Leigh Education Action Zone, is enabling 10 and 11 year olds to work on an advanced course under the eye of Westleigh teachers.
The pupils, all nominated by their schools, were selected from a short list of more than 80 candidates.
All of them have had to achieve outstanding SAT levels at primary schools as well as shining in other areas, such as sport, music or art.
Their programme includes trips to Jodrell Bank, Hope Carr Barn and the Blue Planet Aquarium.
At school, they are using the latest interactive ICT equipment, working with artists, debating and doing some GCSE level maths and science work.
Organiser of the summer school, Joanna Pollard, said: "The programme is designed to allow children to have a broad yet challenging experience."
