I WAS appalled at the sight which greeting me this morning when I arrived to take my weekly fitness class, for Age Concern, at Bury's Jubilee Centre.
Until a few weeks ago, our walking/jogging sessions round the Lido were a delight, with an abundance of wildlife to watch.
Why was no action taken to prevent the current situation arising?
On August 21, I have planned to run sixty-four laps of the Lido, to celebrate my 64th birthday, whilst some of my group members tested their fitness in a sponsored walk.
Less than a month ago, a council employee measured the path for this event. Ugly fencing has now been erected all round and a section of the path closed off.
The area resembles a building site, the laps will be longer and we'll have to negotiate a flight of steps on every circuit.
Does the council realise how many elderly people use this area right through the year? Might I suggest that some of the money being made available for the regeneration of East Bury, is used to restore this lovely water feature to its former glory?
MRS MARIE CALDWELL.
