THE Lancashire Evening Telegraph is once again sponsoring an award for services to the world of amateur dramatics in East Lancashire.
The Curtain Raiser award, named after our weekly column which is due to return shortly after its summer break, is an engraved cut glass bowl presented every year for the recipient to keep.
The winner will be chosen from nominees who have made a significant contribution to amateur dramatics in any capacity and nominations can be submitted by anyone.
They should be sent to National Operatic and Dramatic Association region 3 representative Margaret Gillibrand at Higher Bolton Hall, Copster Green, Blackburn BB1 9ET, by Friday, August 17.
The winner's name will be a strictly-guarded secret until Friday, September 14, when the 13th annual region 3 awards evening takes place at the Pendle Suite of the Dunkenhalgh Hotel, Clayton le Moors.
Fifty musicals and dramas will be eligible for nominations, along with a youth award and a new trophy this year for best performance in a pantomime, given by Blackburn Hospital Players, who have been forced to disband due to the closure of the theatre at Queen's Park Hospital.
