Singles SNOOP DOGGY DOGG: Lay Low (Virgin) -- Thanks to the continued interest in the hip hop scene, Snoop is enjoying continued prominence both here and in America. Once again, he has created a possible hit around a memorable chorus. (7/10) DH

GERI HALIWELL: Scream if you Wanna Go Faster (EMI) -- And boy does she scream. After her interesting cover of Raining Men, it's back to her own stuff for now. Fast moving pop music with screechy lyrics about sum up this song, obviously devised to suit the video rather than the other way round. (4/10) DH

AMEN: The Waiting 18, (Virgin) -- The follow up to the, Price of reality, is a more grungy offering from their second album, We have come for your parents. Following the disappointment of Amen's UK tour cancellation, Casey chaos' men are trying to break into the charts with this immensely catchy fan favourite. For Nirvana or Slipknot fans this will go down an absolute treat. (9/10) SB Albums ATOMIC KITTEN: Right Now (Virgin) -- Whole Again has already been a hit, Eternal Flame is set to be, even if it starts every 'true' music fan off about covers. This album proves the girls are just as good in their line-up as they were with their old one, with a blend of catchy pop tunes which, snob or not, you'll end up humming too. (7/10) DH

N'SYNC: Celebrity (Jive) -- Apparently the group are growing in style and are trying out new styles. The lyrics provide hope for the future, especially the one in Pop which goes 'I'm Tired of Singing.' Good, 'cos we are as well -- tired of them, that is. (5/10) DH

CAST:Beetroot,(Polydor) --So here's the story, bass player from a defunct cult indie band has his own ideas on what sort of music he should be creating, so he decides to form a band who strangely enough write songs that sound just like said defunct band. His band then release an amazing debut album followed up with a half decent second album. Then they run out of ideas and get all self-indulgent. Now they're back claiming to have found themselves but this is patchy effort. The decent tracks are few and far between and fail to hide the cracks in a band that must be heading for a split.

JOE STRUMMER AND THE MESCALEROS: Global a go-go,(hellcat records) --Joe strummer is only good at doing punk and this album is most definitely not punk. Various styles are covered in an uneven manner, there are a few tracks which are kind of like a happy tuneful Arab strap, some acoustic stuff, some Irish sounding stuff, even some mobile phone chirping but no crunching three chord guitar riff in sight. Sorry but this is a poor relation to his outstanding debut. So for those clash fans looking for the last few crumbs from the punk table this is definitely one crumb you should leave to the rats.
