PICTURESQUE Downham has been transformed into a 1950s village for a BBC drama series due to be screened next year.
Heart of the Valley stars James Bolam, probably best known for his role as Terry in The Likely Lads, and Michael French, who set hearts a-flutter when he played David Wicks in EastEnders.
They play doctors -- Bolam's character has tried and tested ways of doing things and he is reluctant to accept change, leading to a clash of personalities when French's character, who has been working in Manchester, moves to the country practice.
Other actors working in the series include Naomi Radcliffe, who played Kevin Webster's wife Alison in Coronation Street, Only Fools and Horses and Vicar of Dibley star Roger Lloyd Pack and Clive Swift, who played Hyacinth Bucket's long-suffering husband Richard.
A BBC spokeswoman said: "It's about village life in the 1950s, relationships and families, focusing on the community aspect. Everybody knows each other and each other's business and they help each other out." Filming is scheduled to last until November, with many members of the film crew staying in and around Clitheroe.
