A 65-YEAR-old Knuzden motorist has denied driving his car at a traffic warden, who was trying to book him for parking outside Blackburn police station.

And an appeal has been made for a mystery woman who witnessed the incident to come forward and help Glyn Shaw clear his name.

Shaw, of Cornwall Avenue, Knuzden, was committed on bail by Blackburn magistrates for trial at Preston Crown Court on a charge of dangerous driving.

But defence solicitor Richard Prew successfully applied for the magistrates to lift Press reporting restriction on the case. He said the incident happened on June 18 at 3.50pm outside the police station on Northgate.

"The prosecution say that while a traffic warden was trying to give him a ticket he got in his car and drove towards her with the intention of running her over," said Mr Prew.

He said that at the time there was a young woman, in her late teens or early 20s standing in the archway leading to the police station yard. "She saw the entire incident and could be a very important witness," said Mr Prew.

"At the moment, it is the word of the traffic warden against that of my client."
