IMUST thank the Livesey residents for their comments (Letters, July 18) regarding an LET report in which Livesey was described as a rough area.
As the letter writer points out, it is not fair to call the area a problem estate. On the contrary, it is a pleasant one, with a large number of long-standing residents and Twin Valley Homes is working to keep it that way.
Twin Valley Homes has carefully examined the allocations policy to find ways of being more adaptable to people's expectations. Discussions regarding the policy have taken place with the Tenants' Association in Livesey.
Twin Valley Homes has a social duty to house people. We take nominations from the council and are not always in a position to refuse people in need of housing.
Most tenants are decent people who know right from wrong. We do not want 'bad tenants' but sadly, there will always be a minority who spoil things for the majority.
We work hard with the local residents, police and troublemakers to stamp our anti-social behaviour. We have served notices with a view to getting the courts to permit us to evict people and we place a high priority on working with tenant groups and ward councillors across the borough to tackle environmental and anti-social behaviour issues.
Twin Valley Homes want tenants to have pride in their area. We support local residents groups to achieve stability within communities and our £130-million rolling programme of investment over the next ten years backs our support.
GWYNETH SARKAR, Director of Housing
