COUNCILLORS look likely to give the green light to plans to build a grocery or general store in Laburnum Street, in Haslingden, despite opposition from residents.
The application to replace a former motor vehicle restorers works with a retail shop has been recommended for approval by council planners who say they would have had similar concerns as residents if the proposal had been for a cash and carry warehouse.
But the applicant has clarified that only a small part of the ground floor is intended for retail purposes.
The council received four individual neighbour responses and a petition signed by 40 people all objecting to use as a cash and carry on the grounds of parking demand, deliveries, safety and traffic concerns in a residential area.
The application will be considered at the Engineering and Planning Sub-committee tomorrow night.
