NELSON's third game in their build-up to the season brought a disappointing result against West Riding Premier League champions Brighouse Town.
The Blues defence struggled to cope with the home forwards in the first half and managed to reach half-time just one goal behind thanks to a series of goal-line clearances.
The single strike came on the half hour when midfielder Gareth Walton hit a low shot from 20 yards and found the bottom corner of the net with keeper Mark Canning rooted to the spot.
Early in the second half John Bailey substituted three of his back four players but straight away a defensive mix-up resulted in Canning giving away a penalty, which Sean Walsh drove home gratefully from the spot after 58 minutes to give Birghouse a two goal lead.
With Scott Gizon adding his strength to the midfield, the Blues began to take control and it was Gizon who pulled a goal back on 68 minutes when he turned in Andy Bannister's cross at the far post.
Despite creating a series of chances Nelson found a second goal elusive although Scott Gizon's looping header in the last minute looked to have done the trick until it came back off the crossbar and was scrambled clear.
RESULT: Brighouse Town...2 Nelson...1
