POLICE have thanked the public for helping in the hunt for an elderly man.
The 80-year-old went missing from his Edgworth home last week but was located within a day after the police received numerous tip-offs.
They were concerned because he had emphysema and was said to be depressed.
A police helicopter was used in the search but the man was found walking towards Bolton.
Police sergeant Andrea Bradbury said: "We would like to thank the staff at Edgworth post office, some local builders and other people who rung in response to an appeal.
"We had the helicopter up, put patrols there and used CID because we were concerned about the man's chest complaint."
