KEVIN GALLACHER could get a run-out for Preston tonight against Premiership title hopefuls Leeds United.
The former Rover has been on trial at Deepdale and North End boss David Moyes is keen to add an experienced head to his squad as he tries to go one better than last year and clinch a spot in the top flight.
"He has been training with us and I will consider him for tonight's game," said the Preston boss, who will get Gallacher on a free transfer after he was released from Newcastle at the end of the season.
"He will bring experience to the squad. He has played at the highest level and he hopes to be part of Scotland's World Cup campaign and beyond.
"He has got a lot to play for and players in this situation tend to be hungry for success, for example Gary McAllister.
"I am probably short of a couple of experienced players."
Striker Gallacher could be added to a wealth of riches up front with Jon Macken, Richard Cresswell and David Healy all vying for a starting slot.
And, at 34, he will be the oldest member of the Deepdale squad who only have one player, Mark Rankine, over 30.
Because of the average age at Deepdale, Moyes thinks his side are similar to Leeds.
"We are looking forward to playing them.
"They reached the semi-final of the Champions League so what more can you say? It will be a really good game for us.
"It is a great opportunity just to be on the same stage.
"They have a young side and we are hoping to progress the same way."
But Moyes refused to be carried away by whatever happens tonight.
"It is a pre season game and I'm sure Leeds will treat it the same way. There are no points up for grabs.
"The biggest game for us starts on Saturday at Gillingham and that is what we have got to get ourselves ready for." Out tonight are defender Ryan Kidd, who has had a piece of his cartilage removed and Graham Alexander, who has resumed jogging, while Paul McKenna is battling to be fit as he is still trying to fully recover from a hernia operation.
