POLICE in the Pennine Division have opted for a "soft" sell summer drink driving campaign.
The crackdown is aimed at keeping injury and death off the roads in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale areas.
Road policing inspector Dave Shepherd said: "Pennine Division is totally committed to reducing road casualties and we have been significant progress.
"Drink driving, however, still remains a serious issue, 420 people lost their lives in the UK last year in collisions where drink driving was a contributing factor. With this in mind anyone caught drinking and driving will face severe action."
Insp Shepherd added: "I would urge people who are visiting pubs and restaurants or perhaps going to barbecues where drinks will be served to either stick to soft drinks or leave their vehicle at home and take a bus, taxi or train of they want to have a drink."
Road traffic officers will be out and about at various locations throughout Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale are promising tough action against anyone caught over the limit."
