SPORADIC acts of violence and disorder marred a popular Morecambe festival at the weekend.
The annual festival of light and water drew large crowds to the Stone Jetty and Marine Road West area of the resort.
Police say the crowd was generally well behaved, but sporadic outbreaks of violence and drunkenness ruined the event for some.
In the most serious incident, at 9.49pm on Saturday night, a 36-year-old woman from Kendal had a bottle thrown in her face.
The woman, who was visiting the festival with her husband, had realised that scuffles were breaking out close to her.
She heard a commotion behind her and turned around. She was hit above her left eye with an alcoholic beverage bottle.
The woman suffered a cut to her left eyebrow and suffered bruising and blackening around her eye. She was taken to hospital with her injuries.
Det Sgt Mark Salisbury of Lancaster Police said: "This is a disgraceful act. Everyone knows the likely consequences of throwing a bottle in the direction of a large crowd of people. Anyone with any information should contact Morecambe Police."
Descriptions have been put forward of two people who were involved in the disturbances and who where in the area when the wounding took place.
The first is described as male, white, 5ft 6ins tall, of broad build, with short, cropped hair, bare backed and wearing jeans.
The second is white, male, 5ft 7ins tall, with cropped hair and a checked shirt.
The event featured two nights of firework displays, along with appearances from veteran bands the Selecter, the Specials and the Beat.
