FROM punk rock to rap, local musicians are benefiting from a pioneering Government programme.
Bands and wannabe rock stars have been given a helping hand in the music industry thanks to More Music in Morecambe.
And just one year on, their New Deal for Musicians programme has resulted in several high profile successes including prestigious air play on national radio and rave reviews.
One local band, 12ft Machette, have had their track "Breathe" played on Jo Whiley's Radio One lunchtime show and performed live on Mary Ann Hobbes night-time rock show.
Lancaster all-girl band Angelica have just recently joined the scheme but have already begun putting the finishing touches to their new album "7Year Itch."
And hip hop crew All Time High have joined up with a Los Angeles-based producer and won rave reviews following great performances in the famous Cavern in Liverpool.
One local punk who has just finished a year on the scheme, said: "I've got a lot out of it. The learning programme pushed me and gave me focus. I got further this year than I have in the past four and I gathered a lot of information that I wouldn't have found. The connection with MMM has been good in terms of motivating me and the monthly meetings have been helpful. I would recommend the scheme to anyone who wants to have a go at making a living in music."
The New Deal is an open learning scheme for 18 to 25 year olds who have been unemployed for at least six months.
