WHY have the figures been manipulated to show the Green Route as the cheapest when this is blatantly not the case?
If the improvements to Junction 34 need to happen regardless, and are to be funded by the Highways Agency, then they should not be taken into consideration. That already makes the Orange Route cheaper.
Why is a dual carriageway being compared with a single carriageway, which is obviously cheaper to construct? Considering that a 'best value' (i.e. what you actually get for your money) approach is now supposed to have been adopted as best practice, and that the Orange Route provides higher capacity and less disturbance to both the built-up and rural environment, I find it bizarre that the Green Route has been recommended.
Unfortunately I don't know enough about local politics to work out what the hidden agenda is.

PS. Who came up with the wheeze of calling the favoured route the 'Green Route' to confuse the environmentalists?
