WE ARE being asked to choose one of two M6 link road proposals, but both, as they are indicated on the presentation document plan, are flawed and 'planned' by blinkered people without an overall view.
The Western Route (more Southern!), with a single lane carriageway, which it is admitted would soon become congested, must be a non-starter.
Why build, and spoil countryside, to make a further expensive by-pass around Galgate when one already exists? -- the M6!
The Northern Route (more Eastern I'd say!) with a two lane dual carriageway, has to be better for long term traffic predictions, safer and more sensible. Though surely there must be a simpler and cheaper way of reshaping the junction 34? What is needed is a roundabout on the A6, between the Bailrigg Business Park and the Whinney Carr Housing Site, with a new access road to a simple 'On North/From North' M6 access (J33a).
This would relieve some Galgate traffic and get Lancaster traffic, from the Southern side, onto the M6 without going through the city centre to join the Northern Route.
Yes -- the Luneside West area needs development for new business and easy access to the M6, but some planning officiados with vision, should look at this together with the Quay development.
Dam the Lune at Snatchem's Pub, with the access roadway over, thus providing deep water at all times in the Quay area.
Pedestrianise all the Quay waterfront area and improve vehicular access to the rear of the frontage premises.
This would attract more restaurants, specialist shops etc to an area which could become a constant 'near city centre' visitor attraction with water, leisure and sports activities.
Morecambe sea defences were planned to incorporate other important features, so come on you men in grey suits, broaden your thinking and use the same initiative!
