POLICE are still trying to identify the body of a man found lying face down under North Pier, on the beach in Blackpool.
The fully-clothed body was retrieved by beach patrol officers at around 11am, on Thursday, August 9 after a man reported seeing the body from the pier.
The dead man was believed to be between 30 and 50 years of age.
Chief beach patrol officer Terry Rogers said: "The only report we had was there was a body in the water. Our patrols got to the scene quite quickly and removed him from the scene. He was about ten metres out."
Three beach patrol officers went into the sea to retrieve the body near the end of North Pier, as the tide was coming in. Attempts were made to revive the man, but without success. Paramedics also attended.
The cause of the man's death, and how long his body had been there, is not yet known.
