HOMES and other buildings can follow in the footsteps of Blackpool Tower by being blessed as part of a year of church celebrations.
The Rev Michael Manley, of Blackpool's St John's Church, pledged to contact every member of the parish and if requested to "bless" the household or building.
Leisure Parcs, owners of the famous landmark, are leading the way by arranging for the first blessing at the top of the Tower.
It was hosted by Melanie Hutchings, Blackpool Tower's deputy manager, last Sunday.
Those who attended looked out over the parish which has a resident population of between 7,000 and 20,000, dependent on the time of the year.
Mr Manley said: "The 2001 Faith Odyssey is a year of thanksgiving for St John's growth as a church family and for the expanding community service.
"The proposed redevelopment of the church will further enhance the work within the community. I would like to thank Leisure Parcs for allowing me to launch the year of celebration from the top of the Tower.
"I am delighted Blackpool's famous landmark is the first building in the parish to receive a blessing."
