EVAN Cook has finished third in the Chorley Night Race Series to win the veteran title as an over 50. Eric Wilson of Darwen Dashers and Paul Mounsey of Red Rose tied as M45 winners while John Swift of Chorley AC won the M60's.

Overall winners were Jason Parker of Bingley and Kath Charnock of Wigan Phoenix.

In the final four miler around Astley Village last Wednesday, Neil Tattersall of Hyndburn was 4th, and Chorley Harriers Katie Ingram and Bernice Greenhalgh were respective winners in the under 18 and over 45 ladies age groups. THIS year's Yorkshireman Off Road Marathon was cancelled on Monday.

Mervyn Keys was Rossendale's highest finisher at Whitworth with fourth place, while elsewhere Clayton Harriers were making their mark.

Paul Targett was seventh in the Mesnes Park 5K at Wigan, and John Wieczorek took fifth in the Chernobyl Challenge 10K in Preston.

Three local athletes dipped under the hour in the Sale 10M, Darwen Dashers Andy Smith and Eric Wilson, and Neil Holding of West Pennine Runners. JENNIFER Tunstill returned her best time of the season in the 800m at the BMC Meeting at Trafford last Tuesday.

The Park High School athlete logged 2:20 on an evening where her club mate Charlotte Bickerstaffe was also close to her best.

Louise Dickinson continued her rehabilitation with 13.04 in the under 15's 100m. The young sprinter is battling back after cracking her arm in a fall during the English School's 200m final.
