SHOPPERS and music lovers will be entertained in Nelson town centre tomorrow as the town's popular live indoor and outdoor acoustic event Nelson Unplugged kicks off.

Gaz and the Groovers will be topping the bill at the annual event with their exuberant sax and soul music.

Gaz was the first to play on stage at the original Cavern Club in his native Liverpool and has jammed with Buddy Guy and Muddy Waters Jr.

Sharing the headline on the outdoor stage, in the Place de Creil, is the Ben Allen Quartet, who will be bringing jazz to the town centre.

Nelson Unplugged organiser Isobel Davies says: "Anyone who loves music should come to this wonderful upbeat event which is part of our bid to revitalise Nelson town centre and put Pendle on the music map."

Other bands on the outdoor stage include the guitarist and vocalist from the band Purple People playing easy-listening pop and musicians Lee Francis and Adam Threlfall who will also be taking part in Colne's Rhythm and Blues Festival later in the month.

Entertainment will run from 11 am until 4 pm on the outdoor stage in the town centre before moving on in to the night at the Goodnight Club, in Stanley Street, with the Uptown Band playing soul with brass.
