THE Wigan and Leigh Christie's Against Cancer support team jumped in at the deep end when it formed in January 2000.
Members, who met for the first time in a Wigan pub, barely knew each other, but the small group's enthusiasm and hard work has already seen them raise more than £30,000.
Now they are offering Leigh daredevils the chance to bounce some funds into Christie's coffers through a white-knuckle experience.
The team is staging a bungee jump as part of a fun day at the Crawford Arms, Red Rock Lane, Wigan, run by Leigh-born Maureen Thorpe, on Sunday, September 2.
Chairman Carl Sharpe said: "We dived into fund-raising, now we're asking others to take the plunge, but from a greater height. No-one with a minimum sponsorship of £100 will have to pay for the jump, so there's lots of incentive to get the backing of friends and family."
Anyone aged 16 or over, or younger with parental consent, can take part. For a deposit of £10, sponsorship forms are available from the pub on 01257 421313, or from the Christie appeals office on 0161 446 3988.
The Wigan-based Ainscough Group is providing free crane hire. There will also be a balloon race, face painting and stalls.
On August 26, the group's grand prize draw for a week's holiday in Spain takes place at Goose Green Labour Club.
