AUSSIE Peter Sleep returned to Rishton this year after a season in the Ribblesdale League as professional at Read.
His duck against Lowerhouse on Sunday was the prelude to a record innings of 340 for the club. WE lost the last couple of games before we played Lowerhouse so it was good to get back to winning ways.
The pro played extremely well and Russell Whalley played a great knock, like we have been expecting him to play all year.
I think we were all a little bit surprise at how many we scored but I think it was due, it was coming.
We ended up bowling as fast as we could because we needed to get the overs in so that the match wouldn't be abandoned.
When you make 340 -- and it doesn't happen very often obviously -- you expect to win the game, but you have to finish the game to make it count.
We knew the weather was going to play a massive part in it and we were lucky to get 13 or 14 overs in before it got called off.
We knew we wouldn't lose on run-rate so we were just having everyone bowl to get the balls down faster.
It started raining and it stopped the game for about 30 minutes and we just wanted to get back out there, bowl the 11 or 12 overs we had to to make it a game.
I'm glad I went for a duck because the pro came in and got 130.
It was just one of those things, I went for a wide ball and played it on. But it gives others the opportunity to get a hit and no one can have any complaints on that score over the past few weeks.
The pro stayed in and that is the way I know he can play.
He has been distraught over the way he has been playing because he knows he can play better than that and I think he just needed one big hit and hopefully he'll be okay.
We had a good night on Sunday after we broke the league record but it is always a good night at Rishton.
We have a supporter down there, he is on the committee and does a lot of work for the club, Paul Chaffer, who always makes sure we all have a good time.
We have the inter-league cup final coming up where we play Littleborough, Clinton Perren's old team, so I know he is looking forward to that.
He spent three years there and I know he has been looking forward to it.
Hopefully we can put up a good performance and win the game. With a bit of luck there's no reason why we can't.
