AN East Lancashire-born music television presenter today blasted her young audience for worshipping modern-day boy bands and said: "Most of them don't even know who Frank Sinatra is."
Natalie Casey, 21, who was born and went to school in Rawtenstall, is the presenter of MTV's Daily Chart Show programme and spends part of the broadcast hitting the streets asking youngsters to name famous faces from past music generations.
Natalie, who started working on MTV after leaving Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks last year after playing dizzy teenager Carol, said she was stunned when youngsters could not name Ol' Blue Eyes Frank Sinatra when his picture was placed in front of them.
They also struggled to identify flame-haired singer Lulu.
Natalie said: "I get a lot of people coming up to me in the street and asking why I criticise the likes of Westlife, Nsync and Atomic Kitten and they really seem to have taken a personal offence to it.
"But I can't stand them.
"When I was 12 and 13, I didn't have the money to buy CDs on any band I fancied. They just nag their parents into buying it for them.
"Parents should stand up to their children and stop them from buying rubbish music.
"When we go out on to the streets the youngsters can name any new band but don't know who Frank Sinatra is. I can't believe that."
Back in 1984, Natalie became the youngest female recording artist to enter the charts after releasing Chick Chick Chicken -- a song she was seen performing on Saturday Superstore. It reached number 72.
She added: "I just tell people what I think. It is what makes my show different and most people seem to appreciate it.
"But the youngsters really need to learn about the musical greats before they start having a go at me."
