TWO dancing enthusiasts who met 51 years ago have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Derek Spencer, 72, a former police officer and Dorothy, 73, a former banker, met at a dance at Accrington Conservative Club, 12 months before they wed.
Derek, of Quebec Road, Lammack, Blackburn, recalls the moment they met.
He said: "I can remember the precise date. It was July 20 and we both loved to dance at the Conservative Club. They were among our very favourite times.
"We enjoyed dancing at King George's Hall, too, until a few years ago but, as we grew older, we have had to give it up."
He added: "The formula for all long-lasting marriages has got to be pulling together and sharing and caring for one another.
"There is no point being selfish in any relationship because, at the end of the day, it will not work out."
The golden couple had a party at their home with friends and family joining in with the celebrations.
