ON Saturday St Helens First XI entertained Highfield at Windleshaw Road. Highfield won the toss and asked St Helens to bat.

St Helens reached 157 all out in the 47th over. Roger Burrows top scored with 49 and Gareth Davies made 23. In reply Highfield were bowled out in the penultimate over for 156.

The game had been rain affected and St Helens bowled 34 overs in reply. Gary Sheppard 4 for 34, Bob Kenny 2 for 42 and Adam Friar 2 for 55. St Helens 22 points, Highfield 6 points.

The Second XI made the short journey to Orrell Red Triangle and bowled only seven overs before rain stopped play.

Almost two hours later and with tea having been taken Orrell continued on their way to 181 for 6 declared in 41 overs.

John Hill 3 for 41, Ian Davies 2 for 22. St Helens were 17 for 3 when the rain came again and play was abandoned.

On Sunday the Third XI travelled to Highfield and were all out for 148. Daniel Massey 50, Paul Booth 23 and Mark Finney 21.

Highfield reached their target for the loss of 7 wickets with 2 good spells of bowling from Paul Booth 4 for 47 and Robert Supria 2 for 5.
