Prescot Cables 1 Droylsden 2
AS part of their preparations for the forthcoming campaign in the North West Counties League, Prescot followed up an 8-2 midweek success against Daten (Warrington) with an impressive performance against Unibond Premier outfit Droylsden.
Although they lost the game, manager Tommy Lawson was far from disappointed with his team's performance.
He felt that Prescot deserved at least a draw from the game, with some justification.
The first half was an evenly fought contest with both keepers producing one fine save each to keep the game goalless at the break.
In the second half, Prescot took control of the game and were rewarded with a goal from Steve O'Neill after 15 minutes. Prescot looked comfortable until Jones went on a mazy run from inside his own half and fired in an unstoppable shot from fully 35 yards to level the scores after 70 minutes.
Two minutes later the same player was on hand to steer the ball home from close range to give Droylsden the lead following a mix up in the Prescot defence. Robinson nearly levelled it for Prescot on 80 minutes with a header that thundered against the bar.
The rebound was handled away by a defender but Garforth hit the resultant penalty straight at the keeper. On Thursday evening (9/08), Prescot entertain last season's Worthington Challenge Trophy winners Formby at Valerie Park, ko 7.30pm.
Prescot conclude their pre-season programme with a game at Squires Gate on Saturday (11/08).
Prescot's opening home game in the NWCFL is against neighbours St Helens Town on Tuesday, 21/08/01.
