THE Women's Royal Voluntary Service is calling on local folk to consider voluntary work before jetting off on their summer holidays.
Nicola Barton, volunteering manager for WVRS, explained: "This is often the time of year that people may think about voluntary work, when the weather is nicer and the days are longer, but perhaps put off finding out more until after their summer holiday.
"So, we are urging people in St Helens and Whiston to come forward and apply to become a volunteer before they jet off, then by the time they return tanned, refreshed and raring to go, they may be able to start helping their local community straight away".
WRVS is looking for caring individuals, both men and women, who can spare a few hours to help at the WRVS child contact centre in St Helens, the tea bar in St Helens Magistrates Court or in Whiston Hospital. There are also opportunities to provide 24-hour support to the emergency services.
Anyone wishing to take up the challenge and help others in St Helens and Whiston can ring 0845 601 4670 (calls charged at local rate).
