This week, with the REV CANON Dr HERRICK DANIEL (Vicar of St Barnabas)
MANY people in our modern society have unfortunately missed opportunities to study subjects relating to the bible, theology and morality, beyond what they learned in religious education at primary or secondary schools.
Consequently many are confused, anxious, spiritually poor, emotionally depressed and entertain a sense of fear, rejection, failure, negativism, due to a lack of fundamental Biblical knowledge. Therefore it is not surprising that many people ask basic questions such as 'Where is God in all this?' or 'Why is the church not speaking out on immorality and injustice?'
People are asking questions relevant to their lives in today's world, and want answers to help them make sense of their lives in today's society.
For these and other reasons it is clear that there is a silent cry for help. The answers may be found in a Practical Grass Roots Theological College to be established at St Barnabas Church and Community Centre next month.
The college will help anybody who is interested to understand basic theology, simple ethics, church history, Christian music, the Bible, and how prayer is the answer to many needs. These and other courses will help people find the true meaning of their lives, as well as to acquire enough Biblical knowledge to increase confidence to live better in today's society.
The college courses will be designed to meet various needs from very basic programmes to more advanced courses. It is anticipated that certificates will be given to successful candidates who satisfactorily complete their studies.
Others may want to do courses out of interest without specific goals. The reasons for doing courses do not matter. What matters is that it will be good news for the people of Blackburn and surrounding towns and villages.
