NOT knowing the full facts behind the claim for compensation for stress by police officers involved in the Bradford riots and, thus, not being in a position to know if they were exposed to unreasonable conditions, which would not be considered part of their normal duties, I feel that your correspondent (Letters, August 6) is being unfair in his condemnation of their action.

Taking his argument to its logical conclusion, since every job carries a degree of stress, does he agree that everyone in the public sector who has taken early retirement on the grounds of a stress-related illness should have their public pension revoked?
