MY CONCERNS for this community increase every day and not for the better.
On Sunday, July 15, my husband and his friend went out for a burger in Leigh.
As they approached the church opposite the bus station, in King Street, two men asked them where the nearest kebab house was. My husband replied that it was just up the road on the right. My husband and his friend then carried on walking but, to their surprise, one of the men tapped my husband's friend on the back.
He turned round and was met with a fist and dragged to the floor. My husband turned around and asked what was going on and stepped forward to help his friend, he was then also met with a punch which broke his nose.
My husband's attacker then stepped back so my husband again stepped forward to help his friend upon which he received another blow to his face, so he hit the attacker in the side of the head, and the attacker grabbed the back of my husband's jumper and pulled his head down.
My husband managed to wriggle out of his jumper and, realising he couldn't fight through both men, he ran to the Casba takeaway and asked them to notify the authorities, then ran back to find his friend sitting on the grass with a tooth missing and severe bruising to his lips.
All the time, my husband had been struggling his friend had been on the floor being constantly kicked in the head and the body. And the attackers just strolled across the road to the George and Dragon car park where a car was waiting for them. I understand unprovoked attacks have been going on for weeks in this area basically the attackers are doing it for the buzz.
My father is a taxi driver and he informed me that all taxi drivers have been warned to be very careful on Spinning Jenny Way, in Leigh, and at Belle Green Lane at Ince.
The sad, sick people who did this will never get the punishment they deserve.
My husband is happily married and the father to three gorgeous children, and is of large build, so it doesn't leave much hope or confidence for those of us who do look weak and feeble.
I just hope you find this letter of some interest and hope it warns people out there of what lurks in the dark even on a main road.
