VOLUNTARY groups in Todmorden are cock-a-hoop after hearing they have won the right to make a former health centre their home.

The news came from Calder Valley MP Chris McCafferty, who said she was delighted to have received confirmation that Calderdale and Huddersfield Health Trust had agreed to hand over the running of the old Abraham Ormerod Health Centre to local organisations.

Councillor Joe Rez said: "I am delighted. It means that groups such as Age Concern have a real home. It means that the centre, which was given for the people of Todmorden, will be well used by them."

Mrs McCafferty said: "Local people were angry with suggestions that a building which had been donated for the benefit of the people of Todmorden could be sold, and cash lost in a regional pot of money.

"I am delighted that the trust has now agreed in principle to allow an appropriate body to take over the running of the building for the benefit of local groups and organisations."
