POLICE are appealing for witnesses of a road accident on Blackpool Promenade yesterday (Monday, August 13) involving an elderly couple to come forward.
Fred Holden, 76, and his wife May, 77, from Haslingden, were crossing the promenade at its junction with Church Street at 10.29pm when they were in collision with a Vauxhall Cavalier and suffered serious head and leg injuries.
It is understood that the car was being driven within the 30mph speed limit at the time of the accident.
Mr Holden was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital and was this morning described by police as "stable and comfortable".
Mrs Holden was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where her condition was described today as "critical".
A police spokesman said Mr and Mrs Holden's next of kin had been informed. And she appealed for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.
