A 61-YEAR-OLD Blackpool hotelier was undergoing an operation today (August 14) to remove a pellet from his throat after being shot with an air weapon on a Blackpool street.

The man, who has not been named, was shot on Ansdell Road, at the junction with Bloomfield Road at around 4pm on Monday.

He was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital and detained overnight before having the operation to remove the pellet this morning.

Police made a search of the area but did not find anyone. Crime Management Det Sgt Paul Phillpott, said: "There are obvious dangers in carrying air weapons in public places. In irresponsible hands they are very dangerous. Parents should be aware of the risks."

Police were appealing for anyone with any information to contact them on (01253) 293933.
